Charging port faults are the second most common phone repair after screen damage. After 2–3 years of daily charging, the mechanical wear on a USB-C or Lightning port adds up — plus most people charge their phones in bed or on a couch, where cables get pushed at angles that stress the port over time.
Before any repair, we check the port for lint and debris. It's surprising how often a "broken charging port" is actually a heavily compacted lint plug that prevents the cable from seating fully. Professional cleaning with the right tools can resolve the fault for free in some cases. If the port itself is damaged — bent pins, cracked housing, or a physically loose socket — a port replacement resolves it reliably.
At STS Roxburgh Park, we repair charging ports on all major phones, tablets, and laptops. Most phone port repairs are 1–2 days; MacBook and laptop ports are 1–3 days.
iPhone charging port repair covers Lightning (iPhone 11, 12, 13, 14, SE 2/3) and USB-C (iPhone 15, 16, SE 4). Lightning ports are on a flex board separate from the logic board — replacement is clean and doesn't require micro-soldering in standard cases. USB-C ports on iPhone 15 and 16 are also on a flex assembly. iPhone 14 and earlier use Lightning exclusively.
Samsung Galaxy USB-C port repair is consistent across the S and A-series range. Samsung's USB-C ports carry more current than iPhone Lightning ports (supporting 25W–45W fast charging) — higher-current charging creates more thermal stress on the port connector over time. Samsung port from $69 (A-series) to $89 (S Ultra models).
MacBook charging ports cover MagSafe 3 (M2 and M3 MacBook Air, M2/M3/M4 MacBook Pro 14/16"), Thunderbolt/USB-C (M1 MacBook Air, M1 MacBook Pro), and the older MagSafe 1/2 (Intel MacBooks). MagSafe 3 connections are magnetic — the port is unlikely to suffer pin damage from cable removal, but the board-side MagSafe connector can develop contact issues or physical damage. From $89.
Board-level charging IC repair is needed when the port itself is undamaged but the phone or laptop still won't charge. The charging integrated circuit (IC) on the main board is responsible for managing current from the port to the battery. If it fails, a replacement port won't fix the fault. We identify charging IC faults during the diagnostic and quote board-level repair separately — from $149.
