The deeper blacks, richer colours, and wider kickstand were a genuine upgrade — but the OLED model kept the same Joy-Con design with the same potentiometer-based analogue sticks that cause drift. If your Switch OLED is drifting, Nintendo quietly did not fix the underlying mechanism.

The Switch OLED screen is noticeably better than the original Switch's LCD, which is exactly why damage stands out more acutely. Even a small crack or pressure mark on the OLED panel is visible because the surrounding pixels produce such deep, consistent blacks.
