The Nintendo Switch OLED launched in October 2021 with a 7-inch OLED screen that made the original Switch's LCD look dated overnight. The deeper blacks, richer colours, and wider kickstand were a genuine upgrade — but the OLED model kept the same Joy-Con design with the same potentiometer-based analogue sticks that cause drift. If your Switch OLED is drifting, Nintendo quietly did not fix the underlying mechanism.
At STS, we repair Switch OLED units across the full range of faults: stick drift, cracked OLED panels, dead charging ports, failed batteries, damaged Joy-Con housings, and dock HDMI issues. The OLED screen is more expensive to replace than the original Switch's LCD — the 7-inch OLED panel itself costs more — but we keep stock on hand and can usually turn around screen repairs within 1 to 2 days.
The Switch OLED screen is noticeably better than the original Switch's LCD, which is exactly why damage stands out more acutely. Even a small crack or pressure mark on the OLED panel is visible because the surrounding pixels produce such deep, consistent blacks. A damaged OLED panel typically needs full replacement — partial repairs that work on LCD panels are not practical on OLED technology.
Stick drift on the Switch OLED is mechanically identical to the original Switch. The Joy-Con analogue stick uses a small carbon strip that wears against a resistor track. As it wears, the resistance reading drifts — and your character moves on its own. We replace the analogue stick mechanism entirely rather than cleaning the contacts, because cleaning is a temporary fix at best.
The Switch OLED dock adds a wider USB port arrangement and the same HDMI output as the original. The HDMI port on the dock is a wear item — repeated cable insertions can loosen the port, causing no TV output or intermittent signal. We can replace the dock HDMI port from $89.
The popular white Joy-Con variant is also prone to housing yellowing over time from UV exposure and skin oils. Joy-Con housing replacement from $49 restores the clean look.
