A Nintendo Switch that won't charge is a common and very repairable fault. The Switch's USB-C charging port sits on the bottom edge and takes constant wear — from docking and undocking, and from being charged while played in handheld mode. Combined with the known vulnerability of the Switch's charging circuit to poor-quality third-party docks, charging faults are one of the most frequent Switch repairs we see.
At STS, we repair charging port faults, battery issues, and charging IC failures on the original Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. Many Switches that "won't turn on" are simply deeply discharged or have a repairable port fault — bring it in for a free diagnostic before assuming it's dead.
USB-C charging port replacement: the Switch's USB-C port is soldered directly to the motherboard, so replacing it requires micro-soldering (desoldering the old port and soldering the new one). Symptoms: won't charge, charges intermittently, only charges at a certain cable angle, or a loose/wobbly port. USB-C port replacement from $79 for all Switch models. Same day or next day. This is one of our most common Switch repairs.
USB-C port cleaning: before assuming the port is damaged, we check for debris — lint compacts in the port and blocks the connector. Cleaning is free at the diagnostic and sometimes restores charging immediately.
Battery replacement: the Switch battery degrades over years of use, leading to short play time, rapid drain, or failure to hold charge. Nintendo Switch battery replacement from $89. Switch Lite battery from $89. Switch OLED battery from $99. The OLED and original Switch have larger batteries than the Lite. Same day to next day.
Charging IC repair: the charging IC (the chip managing power delivery and battery charging) is a known Switch weak point — particularly on the original Switch, and especially after using third-party docks/chargers that don't follow USB-C Power Delivery spec correctly. A damaged charging IC means the Switch won't charge even with a good port and battery. Charging IC repair from $129 (board-level micro-soldering), 2–3 days.
Switch dock repair: if your Switch charges via cable but not in the dock, the dock itself may be faulty — a damaged internal USB-C connector, a failed dock board, or a problem with the AC adapter. We repair Switch docks too. Bring the dock in with the Switch for diagnosis.
Won't turn on: a Switch that won't power on is often deeply discharged (charge it on the official charger for 30 minutes first) or has a charging fault preventing it from taking charge. If it won't revive on the official charger, it's likely a port, battery, or IC fault — all repairable. Free diagnostic.
A note on third-party chargers: the Switch is sensitive to charger quality. We strongly recommend using the official Nintendo charger and dock. Cheap third-party docks and chargers are a leading cause of Switch charging IC damage. After we repair your Switch, switching to official accessories prevents recurrence.
