Gaming PCs represent significant investments — a custom RTX 4080 build can cost $3,000–$5,000, and a pre-built Alienware Aurora or ASUS ROG Strix desktop isn't far behind. When something goes wrong — a GPU producing artefacts, a PC that won't POST after a component swap, or a system that throttles mid-game — you need a repair shop that understands PC hardware at the component level.
At STS Roxburgh Park, we repair gaming desktops, custom builds, and office desktop PCs for customers from Craigieburn to Coburg. We diagnose at the component level using professional test equipment and perform micro-soldering repairs on motherboards and GPUs where replacement would cost far more. Free diagnostic, 6-month warranty on all work.
GPU faults are the most complex and highest-value desktop repair we handle. Discrete GPU failures typically present as display artefacts (coloured pixels, flickering, screen corruption), no-display boot failures, or system crashes under load. The most common underlying faults are VRAM chip failures — caused by heat cycling over years of gaming — and VRM (voltage regulator module) failures on older high-performance cards. We repair at the component level via micro-soldering, replacing the specific failed chip rather than the whole GPU. When board-level repair isn't viable, we advise you on the most cost-effective path forward.
Power supply failures are the other major desktop fault category. A PSU that fails can present as sudden power-off under load, failure to power on at all, or intermittent crashes — any of these can also be caused by a motherboard fault, so correct diagnosis matters. We test each PSU rail with calibrated equipment, check capacitor health on the motherboard, and identify the true failed component before quoting repair.
Overheating is highly common in gaming PCs that have been running for 3+ years. Desktop CPU cooler thermal paste dries just like laptop paste — and some CPUs (especially Intel Core i9 and AMD Ryzen 9 under full load) produce enough heat to thermal-throttle significantly on degraded compound. We clean heatsinks, replace thermal paste on CPU and GPU, clear dust from radiator fins and intake filters, and test under load with monitoring tools.
Custom build troubleshooting — won't POST, won't detect storage, random BSoDs — is a methodical process of isolation. We've seen every combination of incompatible components and misconfigured BIOS settings. We document exactly what we found and what we changed.
Our workshop is at Shop G69, 250 Somerton Road, Roxburgh Park. Open 7 days, 9am–5pm.
