A slow laptop is rarely "worn out" — in almost all cases, a slow laptop can be made dramatically faster for a fraction of the cost of replacement. The single most common cause is a mechanical hard drive (HDD), and swapping it for an SSD transforms the laptop's speed. Add a RAM upgrade and a thermal service, and a 5–6 year old laptop can feel faster than the day it was bought.

SSD upgrade — the single biggest speed improvement: if your laptop still has a mechanical hard drive (HDD), upgrading to an SSD is transformative. The HDD is the bottleneck on most slow laptops — it physically spins a disk to read data, which is hundreds of times slower than an SSD's flash memory. Software optimisation and cleanup: Windows accumulates startup programs, background services, and bloatware over time, all of which slow boot time and general performance. Our software optimisation (from $79) includes: disabling unnecessary startup programs, removing bloatware and trialware, clearing temporary files, checking for and removing malware, and updating drivers. This is the cheapest speed-up and helps even on laptops that already have an SSD.

Malware and bloatware removal: malware running in the background consumes CPU, memory, and network — and often makes a laptop dramatically slower. Bloatware (manufacturer trialware, toolbars, "PC optimiser" scam apps) does the same. Malware removal from $89 — we scan, remove threats, and restore performance.

Thermal service for throttling: a laptop 3+ years old often has a dust-clogged heat sink and dried-out thermal paste, causing the CPU to overheat and throttle (deliberately slow down to reduce heat). Thermal service from $89 — dust clean + new thermal paste restores full CPU speed and quiets the fan.
