Liquid damage to a laptop is a time-critical emergency — the sooner it reaches STS for cleaning, the better the outcome. Power off immediately, flip it upside down, and bring it in. Do not put it in rice (useless for board corrosion), do not use a hairdryer, and do not try to turn it on to check if it still works.

The damage from a liquid spill is usually not caused by the water itself — it's caused by the corrosion that forms as dissolved minerals and organic matter in the liquid react with the copper traces and component solder joints on the motherboard over hours and days. Clean water causes less damage than coffee; coffee causes less than soft drink; soft drink causes less than juice or wine. But all liquids cause progressive damage if left untreated.

Keyboard replacement after a spill: the keyboard is the first component affected by any spill — liquid enters through the keys and flows down the keyboard membrane onto the chassis below. Sticky or dead keys after a spill require keyboard replacement or thorough cleaning. Logic board cleaning: isopropyl alcohol manual clean is appropriate for minor spills caught quickly. MacBook liquid damage: the MacBook chassis directs liquid through the keyboard toward the logic board — the board is most at risk. The T2 security chip and Thunderbolt controller are common failure points after liquid ingress on MacBook Pro. MacBook Air liquid damage more commonly affects the keyboard and touchpad, with the logic board surviving if powered off quickly. What we cannot fix: if liquid reached the display and has permanently stained the OLED/LCD layer (white mineral deposits inside the panel), the screen needs replacement — this is a physical display damage, not a board issue. If the SSD data storage has been damaged, data recovery may be needed before hardware repair.
