The iPhone 7 launched in September 2016 with Apple's most significant design change in years — the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack. It introduced IP67 water resistance (the first iPhone with meaningful splash protection), a new solid-state home button with haptic feedback (Taptic Engine), and the A10 Fusion chip.

At STS Roxburgh Park, we still see iPhone 7 repairs regularly. The phone runs iOS 15 (its final OS version) and handles calls, messaging, and light social media use reliably. The most common issues at this age are battery degradation (7+ years means virtually all cells are well below 80%) and screen damage. iPhone 7 and 7 Plus screens use Retina LCD technology — not OLED — which produces accurate colours and good brightness. Replacement panels are mature and readily available. The iPhone 7 has a 4.7-inch display; the 7 Plus a 5.5-inch display with Portrait Mode dual-camera. Both use the same Lightning connector.

The iPhone 7 home button is electronically paired to the logic board by Apple during manufacturing. This pairing allows Touch ID (fingerprint authentication) to work. A third-party home button will restore the physical click but disables Touch ID. For most users, this is acceptable since Face Code and passcode still unlock the phone. We always advise on this before repairing — and attempt to salvage or repair the original button ribbon cable when possible.

iPhone 7 Lightning port repair is straightforward. The port sits on a small flex board that also carries the microphone, antenna, and speaker connection. Replacement restores charging, sync, and headphone adapter use.

Water damage on an IP67 iPhone 7 is more repairable than on older iPhones since the seals reduce initial ingress. However, the IP67 rating only covers brief submersion in 1 metre of fresh water — salt water, pool chemicals, and deep immersion cause damage regardless.
