The Samsung Galaxy S10 series launched in March 2019 and remains one of the most commonly repaired phones we see at STS Roxburgh Park. Released over six years ago, S10 devices are deep into the battery degradation window — and the curved AMOLED screens on the S10 and S10+ are among the more complex repairs in the Samsung lineup.

Three variants cover distinct use cases: the S10e with its flat LCD and compact 5.8-inch body, the S10 with curved 6.1-inch AMOLED and the landmark in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, and the S10+ with a 6.4-inch curved display and dual front cameras. The Galaxy S10 and S10+ introduced Samsung's ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor — a notable step beyond the optical sensors used by many competitors. Ultrasonic fingerprint recognition works by bouncing sound waves off the ridges of your fingerprint, making it more reliable in wet conditions than optical sensors. The technology, however, depends heavily on the acoustic properties of the replacement screen. Non-OEM panels do not have the correct ultrasonic transmission layer, causing fingerprint recognition to fail entirely after replacement. STS stocks OEM-spec curved AMOLED panels that preserve full in-display fingerprint functionality on the S10 and S10+.

Curved AMOLED screens on the S10 and S10+ also require a specific repair process. The curved glass must be bonded with LOCA (Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive) under controlled conditions — a more involved process than flat glass replacement. This is why curved screen repairs cost more and why low-cost repair shops frequently produce screen lifts or adhesive bubbles at the curved edges. Our technicians are trained in the full curved bonding process.

Australian Galaxy S10 units ship with Samsung's Exynos 9820 processor rather than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 used in US and Korean markets. The Exynos 9820 is known for running hotter under sustained workloads — GPU-intensive apps, long camera sessions, navigation. Over 5-6 years, this repeated heat exposure accelerates battery degradation more than in Snapdragon markets. If your S10 feels sluggish and short on battery life, both symptoms are often the Exynos thermal cycle having worn down the battery well below 70% health.

Battery replacement from $79 restores full-day endurance on any S10 variant. The S10e carries a 3,100mAh cell, the S10 a 3,400mAh cell, and the S10+ a 4,100mAh cell. At 6 years old, most are at 60-70% capacity — a meaningful drop from factory.

The S10 series is IP68 rated for water resistance. While IP68 is a good safeguard against splashes, the water resistance degrades as the phone ages — adhesive seals weaken over years of heat cycling. Repair work restores the screen or battery but does not fully restore factory-level IP68 rating. We advise treating any repaired S10 as splash-resistant rather than submersion-proof.
