When Sony says your PlayStation needs replacing, that's their answer to everything — it keeps their repair business simple. At STS, we take the opposite approach. We open the console, identify the specific fault, and fix it. That distinction saves PlayStation owners hundreds of dollars, which is why customers from Craigieburn, Coburg, and across Melbourne's north bring their PS5s and PS4s to our Roxburgh Park workshop.
We repair both generations. The PS5 introduces specific challenges — the disc drive is paired to the console's system software, and the HDMI port is positioned in a way that makes it vulnerable to damage from forceful cable insertion or cable trips. The PS4 generation is older and has well-understood failure modes: thermal paste degradation (the most common cause of shutdowns), hard drive failure, and HDMI encoder chip faults. Our micro-soldering capability means we can repair faults at the board level that other workshops simply can't.
PS5 disc drive repairs cover the full mechanism — the laser assembly, the disc loading motor, and the eject mechanism. If your PS5 won't accept discs, won't eject, or says "disc not supported" on otherwise-working media, bring it in. We diagnose the specific fault first, then quote you a fixed price.
PS5 and PS4 HDMI port repairs are board-level micro-soldering jobs. The HDMI port on both consoles is surface-mounted to the main board — when the port breaks (often from a side-impact on the cable), only the port needs replacing, not the board. We stock HDMI ports for all PlayStation models and can usually complete the repair in 1–2 days.
Thermal services — new thermal paste on the APU plus a thorough heatsink clean — are the single most cost-effective PlayStation repair. A PS4 Pro that's throttling and shutting down under load almost always just needs fresh paste. A PS5 that runs hot and noisy often just needs the dust cleared from the heatsink fins. These repairs typically take under a day.
