MacBook screens — Retina and Liquid Retina XDR — are among the highest-quality laptop displays available. They're also among the most expensive to replace. The good news: a damaged MacBook screen almost never means the rest of the laptop is affected. In the majority of cases, the logic board, storage, and memory are completely fine — only the display assembly needs replacing.

MacBook screen faults split into two categories: physical damage (cracks, pressure marks from sitting something on the closed lid) and functional failure (lines, flickering, dim or dark screen, or intermittent display). Physical damage always requires display assembly replacement. Functional failure may be a display cable, a backlight issue, or the panel itself — the free diagnostic distinguishes between these before any parts are ordered.

MacBook Air screen repair is our most common MacBook display service. The M1 MacBook Air (13") uses a 2560x1600 IPS Retina display — the same form factor as the Intel predecessor but with True Tone support. The M2 MacBook Air has a redesigned 2560x1664 Liquid Retina panel in a thinner chassis. The M3 Air is visually identical to the M2. MacBook Air screen from $199 (M1), $219 (M2/M3). M2 and M3 Air screens use a slightly different mounting system that requires more care in disassembly.

MacBook Air 15" screen repair covers the 2023 and 2024 M2/M3 models. The 15" Air uses a 2880x1864 Liquid Retina display — physically larger and more expensive than the 13" model. From $249.

MacBook Pro 13" screen repair covers both the M-chip models (M1 Pro, M2 Pro) and the Intel models (2016–2022). All 13" MacBook Pro displays are Retina IPS. From $249.

MacBook Pro 14" and 16" screen repair is the most complex and expensive MacBook display work. The Pro 14" uses a 3024x1964 Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED display — the "ProMotion" 120Hz panel with extreme local dimming. The 16" uses a 3456x2234 equivalent. These are not standard IPS panels; they use a mini-LED backlight matrix with thousands of local dimming zones. The display assembly replacement is more involved than Air or 13" Pro. From $349 (14") and $399 (16").

Display cable and connection faults on MacBooks cause black screens, intermittent screens, and display lines without the panel itself being damaged. On the MacBook Air M1, the display cable routes through the hinge — hinge wear or a drop can stress the cable's connection. On older Intel MacBook Pros, the same-side cooling intake direction meant keyboard crumbs could work into the display cable path. Cable repair or replacement from $99–$149.

Backlight-only faults on MacBook screens (image visible with a torch but no brightness) are usually the backlight connector or the backlight IC on the logic board. This is a micro-soldering repair if it's the IC, or a cable replacement if it's the connector.
