We'll be honest with you up front: a physically cracked TV screen (where the LCD or OLED panel itself is damaged) usually cannot be economically repaired. TV panels aren't repairable like phone screens — the whole panel must be replaced, and a replacement panel typically costs 60–80% of a new TV's price. For most TVs, that means replacing the TV is the better value.
That said, there are exceptions — large premium TVs, OLEDs, or insurance claims — where it's worth assessing. And critically, many people assume their TV's screen is "cracked" when the actual fault is a repairable backlight, board, or connection issue (no physical crack). We assess your TV for free and tell you honestly what's going on and what makes financial sense.
First, let's confirm it's actually a cracked panel: a surprising number of TVs brought in as "cracked screens" actually have no physical crack — instead they have a backlight failure, a T-CON board fault, or a loose connection that causes black areas, lines, or no picture. These are repairable and economical (see our TV no-picture and backlight repair services). A genuine crack shows physical fracture lines, often radiating from an impact point, with black "ink blot" patches where liquid crystal has leaked. If your screen has lines or black areas but no physical crack, the fault may well be repairable — bring it in.
If the panel is genuinely cracked: the panel must be replaced as a unit — it cannot be repaired. The economics: a replacement panel for a typical 55" TV costs $400–$600+ before labour, against a new 55" TV at $500–$900. For most mid-size TVs, replacement is the better value. We won't sell you a panel replacement that costs more than a new TV.
When panel replacement IS worth considering: (1) Large premium TVs (75"–85"+) where the panel is a smaller fraction of the high total cost. (2) High-end OLED TVs where a new equivalent is very expensive. (3) TVs where you're claiming on insurance and the insurer is covering the cost. (4) Commercial/signage displays. For these, we assess panel availability and cost and give you a firm quote.
Insurance claims: home and contents insurance frequently covers accidental TV damage (a cracked screen from a knock, a thrown controller, kids, etc.). We provide written assessments and quotes that you submit to your insurer. Because panel repair is often uneconomical, many claims result in a replacement payout — our documentation supports that. There's no charge for the assessment and quote.
What we recommend instead, often: if your cracked TV isn't worth repairing, we can help you choose a sensible replacement, and we responsibly recycle your old TV through our e-waste service (TVs contain materials that shouldn't go to landfill). We can also transfer any external devices/soundbars to the new TV setup.
Brands we assess: Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense, TCL, Panasonic, Kogan, and all major brands. Bring it in or call us with the model number for initial guidance.
