Panasonic has been a premium TV brand in Australian homes for decades. While Panasonic no longer manufactures its own panels — instead sourcing LG Display OLED and IPS LCD panels — their picture processing, build quality, and tuning remain among the best available. A Panasonic TH-65MZ2000 or TH-65JZ1000 is a significant investment, and one that's absolutely worth repairing when a component fails rather than replacing the whole TV.
At STS Roxburgh Park, we repair the full Panasonic TH range: LED 4K models (LX600, LX800, LX900A series), OLED models (MZ2000, JZ1000, LZ1500, HZ2000), and older TH series TVs. Panasonic's Australian service network is limited for out-of-warranty units — we provide specialist board-level repair with a 6-month warranty.
The most common Panasonic TV fault we see is backlight failure on LED models. Panasonic LED TVs use direct-lit or edge-lit LED arrays that degrade over time — individual LED strips can fail, causing unlit sections of the screen or a completely dark picture while audio continues normally. The torch test confirms it: shine a torch at the screen in a dark room, and if you can see a faint image, the backlight is the fault. LED strip replacement on Panasonic models starts from $149 and typically takes 2–4 days for part sourcing.
Power board capacitor failure is the second most common fault. Panasonic TVs use quality power boards, but electrolytic capacitors age with heat cycling. Typical symptoms include random shutdowns, failure to power on, or standby issues. We replace faulty capacitors at the component level — far more cost-effective than replacing the entire board, and a proper long-term fix rather than swapping in a secondhand board.
Mainboard and T-CON faults cause symptoms like no picture, distorted colour, lines or bands on screen, and HDMI input issues. Panasonic's TH series mainboards are repairable at the component level in many cases — particularly USB and HDMI controller faults, EEPROM issues, and processing IC failures. We diagnose board faults with a scope before quoting, which means we only charge for repairs we can actually complete.
For Panasonic OLED TVs (MZ2000, JZ1000, LZ series), the important distinction is between panel failure and processing failure. The OLED panel itself — sourced from LG Display — is not cost-effectively replaceable. However, the mainboard, audio amplifier, and power supply faults on OLED Panasonic TVs are all repairable. If the panel has failed (large uniform dark patches or full burn-in), we'll advise you honestly rather than taking the job.
