Sony BRAVIA sits at the premium end of the Australian TV market — and for good reason. The Cognitive Processor XR that drives the X90K, X95K, and A-series OLED models is genuinely different from the upscaling engines in budget TVs: it analyses content the way human perception works, adjusting contrast, colour, and motion with a level of contextual intelligence that shows clearly on a good source. It's why a Sony X95K and a Hisense U8K of the same screen size occupy different price brackets entirely.
When a Sony BRAVIA fails, Sony's authorised service network is rarely the fast or affordable option. Sony AU repair centres are slow — typical turnaround is 3–6 weeks — and quotes are often high enough to prompt a replacement rather than a repair. STS offers the alternative: board-level diagnosis, same-week turnaround in most cases, and a fixed-price quote before we start. We repair the full BRAVIA lineup, from entry-level X75 models to A95K OLED.
Sony OLED models — the A80K, A90K, A95K — are exceptional televisions, and the faults they develop are almost always board-level rather than panel-level. This is important: genuine OLED panel replacement costs more than the TV in most cases. But most Sony OLED faults that present as display problems — a blank screen, colour shifts, partial loss of picture — are T-CON board or mainboard failures, not panel failures. We diagnose before quoting, and we'll never recommend a panel replacement when a $169 T-CON fix will resolve the problem.
The X90K and X95K MiniLED models use a far more complex backlight than conventional LED — hundreds of individually controlled dimming zones behind the LCD panel. When a MiniLED zone controller fails, you see irregular bright patches, halo effects, or sections of the screen that stay bright when they should dim. This is a backlight driver board fault, not a panel fault, and it's repairable. MiniLED backlight repairs start from $199 at STS.
Sony BRAVIA mainboard faults tend to present in two distinct ways. The first is a hardware fault: no power past standby, random shutdowns, no video output. The second is a Google TV OS failure: persistent boot loops, error code 3-4 or similar, apps that crash immediately after factory reset. Both look like software problems but are almost always NAND flash or eMMC degradation on the mainboard. We diagnose to component level and replace at the chip where possible, which is significantly cheaper than a full board swap.
Sony BRAVIA HDMI 2.1 ports are high-value repair targets — particularly for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners who need 4K at 120Hz and variable refresh rate. Sony's HDMI 2.1 connector is micro-soldered to the mainboard, and a damaged or dead port disables 4K 120Hz even if the TV and console are both capable. We replace the connector under magnification, restore the pad connections, and test with a 4K 120Hz source before returning the TV. HDMI port repairs start from $99.
